ACT NOW: Urge your MP to support disabled people’s fundamental right to communication.
The Government is taking action to support children and young people’s communication, but this commitment stops at 19 years of age.
Scope, along with the rest of the Adult Communication Coalition England, believes that the Government should be supporting the speech, language and communication needs of all disabled people, no matter what their age is.
Last year 77 members of Parliament (MPs) signed a statement calling on the Government to keep its commitment to children and make a similar commitment to adults and older people. This showed just how much support there is in Parliament for disabled people’s communication needs.
This year we want even more MPs to know about the importance of supporting adults and older people’s communication.
Dr Roger Berry MP has tabled a new statement in Parliament. This statement is called an Early Day Motion. MPs can sign up to an Early Day Motion to show their support for an issue.
The 'Support for Adults with Communication Needs' Early Day Motion calls on the Government to support all adults with a speech, language and communication need, by undertaking a national audit of the services they currently receive.

On Wednesday 25 November 2009, Scope published the latest No Voice, No Choice report on how communication equipment and support services should be delivered in the future. The report found that many disabled adults in the UK still do not have the necessary equipment and support they need to communicate effectively.
