Day 9 – Jaipur to Agra

We started the day with a different mode of transport as we swapped our bikes for elephants and took a trip to the Amber Fort at Jaipur. Two to an elephant for the long climb up the hill. We met our first souvenir sellers here and I was astonished at length of the bargaining process that resulted in the sale of a mass-produced turban.

As we left Jaipur for Agra we also encountered smog for the first time. Dirt and dust so thick you couldn’t see the sky. It didn’t lift for 200 km.

Everywhere we rode through we saw barefoot children in rags. But children with the happiest smiles I have ever known, who waved as we went past.
